Buildings & Meters

The Buildings & Meters view displays all organization data by Place. The Navigation pane of the interface displays the Facilities Tree View, which is an easily navigable hierarchy of Places, Meters and Counters representing the energy infrastructure of the organization. Each Place is a node of the Facilities tree in EnergyCAP. When a node from the Facility tree is selected, the use/cost data for that node is “rolled up” from the combined data in all subdirectories (Places/Meters) under that node, and is displayed in the Presentment pane in a variety of tabbed PowerViews®—charts and lists built from organization energy data.

*PowerView® is a registered trademark of EnergyCAP®, Inc.

NOTE: In the organization structure, place nodes containing other nodes are indicated by an arrow icon which appears just to the left of the node icon. When the arrow points to the right, the subordinate nodes (Places/Meters/Counters) are hidden. To expand the view to reveal the hidden nodes, click the arrow icon, which changes to a downward-pointing arrow. To hide the nodes, click the arrow icon again.

At the top of the Presentment pane for the Buildings & Meters view are a series of tabs for presenting the following PowerViews:

The General PowerView displays basic place or meter information, including address and links to the accounts associated with the currently-selected meter or place.

The Summary PowerView presents associated year-to-date use, cost and (where applicable) demand for the selected place or meter via the familiar EnergyCAP PowerView® charts. For comparison, the previous year totals are provided.

Depending on the node of the hierarchy that is selected, several additional comparative charts are provided:

    • Total Use and Cost Summary—Provides values for YTD cost and previous year(s) total cost using a bar graph format.
    • Unit Cost Summary—Provides annual unit cost values ($/commodity unit) for the selected meter in a bar graph format.
    • Energy Cost Percentage—(Displays for Place nodes only) Provides a comparison of relative costs for each commodity associated with the selected Place, expressed as a percentage in a pie graph format.
    • Equivalent YTD (Per Day)—Provides the average daily energy use and cost associated with the selected Meter or Place.
    • Current YTD Vs. Same Period Last Year—Provides a quick comparison of YTD expenses vs. the same period last year, expressed as a colored bar with positive or negative percentage scale.

The Commodity PowerView (available for Places only) provides a graphical year-to-year comparison for cost and use associated with each individual commodity.

Select the desired commodity by clicking its icon. The Commodity tab data provides a graphical comparison of current year use and cost data with up to three years of previous data. Commodity PowerViews answer questions like, “How does this year’s electric use per day compare to last year’s use per day for this store?” Up to six charts are provided for each commodity:

    • Total Cost Summary—Provides a bar chart with actual dollars spent each year.
    • Total Use Summary—Provides a bar chart with total use (expressed in the unit appropriate for the commodity) each year.
    • Unit Cost Summary—Provides a bar chart with cost per unit comparisons (Year-To-Date vs. two previous calendar years)
    • Equivalent YTD (Per Day)—Provides a bar chart comparing Equivalent Year-To-Date DAILY cost and use data.
    • Current YTD vs. Same Period Last Year—Provides a bar chart comparing cost and use per day to last year’s values for the same period, expresses as percentage values.
    • Total Demand (KW) Summary—For the electric commodity, displays total annual demand.

The Monthly PowerView provides month-by-month comparisons of cost, unit cost and use for each energy type using a bar graph format. This view enables quick comparisons of monthly cost and use fluctuations.

The Bills PowerView (available only at the Meter level of the Facilities tree) provides a table with all associated billing data arranged chronologically with the most current bills first.

The Demand PowerView (available only at the Meter level of the Facilities tree) displays a line graph with Year-To-Date Actual and Billed Demand data in the context of up to three additional years of monthly demand values. A second bar graph presents monthly Load Factor values (when available) in a bar chart format.

The Cost Avoidance PowerView (enabled only if the organization has implemented the Cost Avoidance module in EnergyCAP Enterprise) provides a graphical display/analysis of Cost Avoidance similar to the Cost Avoidance PowerView charts in EnergyCAP Enterprise.

The Greenhouse Gas PowerView (enabled only if the GHG conversion factors are stored in the database) provides year-to-year graphical comparisons of greenhouse gas emissions, a breakdown of emissions into Direct and Indirect categories, and pie charts displaying percent emissions by GHG category, gas type, and Commodity type.
