EnergyCAP® Online is a web-based software application designed to provide internet viewers with access to their EnergyCAP Enterprise organizational structure and reporting tools. Currently, EnergyCAP Online provides view-only access to primary Managers from the installed LAN version, as well as an interactive module for basic bill processing. Future iterations and/or related products will include online tools for organization design/maintenance, user and vendor updates, and other EnergyCAP functions available in the installed version.

The EnergyCAP Online interface enables individual users to access their data via a password-protected online login. EnergyCAP Online provides instant access to EnergyCAP data and reports from any computer with internet access.
Login requires an EnergyCAP Username and password, which must first be set up through the User Manager in EnergyCAP Enterprise. The user must also possess knowledge of the URL (web address) where the database program resides, and the database name (datasource).

EnergyCAP Online offers database accessibility to remote offices that are not connected to the SQL Server database via a LAN, and to infrequent users who do not need complete functionality. The current version of EnergyCAP Online allows you to:
NOTE: To read detailed information about any web-displayed PowerView or Chart, simply click the chart. A popup Explain Chart window will appear. When done, click OK to close the window.
Navigation in EnergyCAP Online is simple. All primary program areas can be accessed at any time by clicking the main menu (green bar/arrow icon) and clicking/selecting the desired module from the drop-down list:

Home: Welcome window and introduction to EnergyCAP Online
Buildings & Meters: Online PowerViews duplicating the Facility Manager of the installed EnergyCAP LAN version.
Groups & Benchmarking: Online view-only benchmarking tool duplicating the Group Manager of the installed EnergyCAP LAN version.
Cost Centers & Accounts: Online view-only organization account structure duplicating the Account Manager of the installed EnergyCAP LAN version.
Vendors & Rates: Online list of vendors and associated accounts.
Bill Processing: Online Bill Processing tool duplicating most of the functionality present in the Work Flow Manager of the installed EnergyCAP LAN version.
Reports: Online report generating tool duplicating most of the functonality present in the Report Manager of the installed EnergyCAP LAN version.
When the user accesses the correct URL and completes the login procedure successfully, the EnergyCAP Online interface will appear in the browser window.
Depending on configuration settings, the initial view will be either a Home page or the Buildings & Meters page. If the Home page is displayed, it will provide a Welcome pane containing basic information and navigation instructions. The Home page can be accessed at any time by clicking Home from the top menu.
The Home navigation pane includes clickable links to:

At the top right side of the browser window are several clickable links:
Home: Returns to the EnergyCAP Online Home page.
Settings: Allows for configuration of preferred internet settings and options including:
Logout: Terminates database access. The user will be returned to the Login page.
There is also a dynamic context-sensitive Search text box which takes the place of the basic and advanced search options in EnergyCAP Enterprise. As characters are entered, a list with contents matching the character string will appear beneath the Search field. The list is populated from account/meter/group data available in the EnergyCAP database. Click the desired match to link to the selected account/meter/group.
The EnergyCAP interface is divided into two panes for most views; a navigation/tree view pane on the left and a presentment pane on the right. The left pane reveals hierarchical data associated with the selected view. The right pane displays data associated with the selected object in the hierarchy.
The Buildings & Meters view displays all organization data by Place. The Navigation pane of the interface displays the Facilities Tree View, which is an easily navigable hierarchy of Places, Meters and Counters representing the energy infrastructure of the organization. Each Place is a node of the Facilities tree in EnergyCAP. When a node from the Facility tree is selected, the use/cost data for that node is “rolled up” from the combined data in all subdirectories (Places/Meters) under that node, and is displayed in the Presentment pane in a variety of tabbed PowerViews®—charts and lists built from organization energy data.
*PowerView® is a registered trademark of EnergyCAP®, Inc.
NOTE: In the organization structure, place nodes containing other nodes are indicated by an arrow icon which appears just to the left of the node icon. When the arrow points to the right, the subordinate nodes (Places/Meters/Counters) are hidden. To expand the view to reveal the hidden nodes, click the arrow icon, which changes to a downward-pointing arrow. To hide the nodes, click the arrow icon again.
At the top of the Presentment pane for the Buildings & Meters view are a series of tabs for presenting the following PowerViews:
The General PowerView displays basic place or meter information, including address and links to the accounts associated with the currently-selected meter or place.

The Summary PowerView presents associated year-to-date use, cost and (where applicable) demand for the selected place or meter via the familiar EnergyCAP PowerView® charts. For comparison, the previous year totals are provided.

Depending on the node of the hierarchy that is selected, several additional comparative charts are provided:
The Commodity PowerView (available for Places only) provides a graphical year-to-year comparison for cost and use associated with each individual commodity.

Select the desired commodity by clicking its icon. The Commodity tab data provides a graphical comparison of current year use and cost data with up to three years of previous data. Commodity PowerViews answer questions like, “How does this year’s electric use per day compare to last year’s use per day for this store?” Up to six charts are provided for each commodity:
The Monthly PowerView provides month-by-month comparisons of cost, unit cost and use for each energy type using a bar graph format. This view enables quick comparisons of monthly cost and use fluctuations.

The Bills PowerView (available only at the Meter level of the Facilities tree) provides a table with all associated billing data arranged chronologically with the most current bills first.
The Demand PowerView (available only at the Meter level of the Facilities tree) displays a line graph with Year-To-Date Actual and Billed Demand data in the context of up to three additional years of monthly demand values. A second bar graph presents monthly Load Factor values (when available) in a bar chart format.
The Cost Avoidance PowerView (enabled only if the organization has implemented the Cost Avoidance module in EnergyCAP Enterprise) provides a graphical display/analysis of Cost Avoidance similar to the Cost Avoidance PowerView charts in EnergyCAP Enterprise.
The Greenhouse Gas PowerView (enabled only if the GHG conversion factors are stored in the database) provides year-to-year graphical comparisons of greenhouse gas emissions, a breakdown of emissions into Direct and Indirect categories, and pie charts displaying percent emissions by GHG category, gas type, and Commodity type.

Groups & Benchmarking provides a powerful way to associate similar Places or Meters with each other for comparative and benchmarking purposes. Groups must be set up in EnergyCAP Enterprise in order to be viewed with EnergyCAP Online. All Groups in EnergyCAP Enterprise are either Place groups or Meter groups.
Once a group of either type is set up, reports based on data from the group can be viewed in EnergyCAP Online using the available PowerView tabs for Groups.
There are also two ways that Groups are set up and maintained in EnergyCAP Enterprise.
Typical groups include those Places/Meters sharing similar commodities, similar costs, similar building types, similar usage patterns, etc.. For example, Groups can be used to compare and report on:
To use the Groups reporting capability in EnergyCAP Online:
PLACE group tabs/PowerViews in EnergyCAP Online include:
NOTE: In EnergyCAP, annualized cost or use is determined using the following calculation:
Annualized value (cost or use) = Bill totals for year * 365 / Number of Days
Where Number of Days = the lesser of:

METER group PowerViews available in EnergyCAP Online are:

NOTE: Available PowerViews for Place and Meter groups may vary by commodity and availability of data.
The Cost Centers & Accounts view organizes all cost and use data for utility accounts. An account in EnergyCAP represents a formal business arrangement between a customer and a vendor. A cost center is a group or collection of related accounts. The Navigation pane of the Accounts view contains the Accounts Tree View, which provides navigation between cost centers and the individual accounts associated with them. Data for the selected account or cost center is displayed in the Presentment pane. Cost centers organize accounts into categories that can be used to represent departments, divisions, vendors, commodities, etc within your organization. When you select a node from the accounts tree, data associated with that node is 'rolled up' and displayed as totals in the Presentment pane.
At the top of the Presentment pane are tabs/links to four PowerView options:

The Monthly link displays month-by-month comparisons of cost, use and unit cost for each energy type using a bar graph format. This view enables quick comparisons of monthly cost, use, and unit cost fluctuations.
Vendors & Rates provides view-only access to vendor contact data, associated summary utility billing data, related accounts and contract details.
To access the Vendors & Rates module, click the Vendors & Rates link from the Home view. The Vendors & Rates home page will be displayed.

Click the Vendors and Rates link to open the vendor module. The vendor module provides four tabbed views of vendor data: General, Summary, Accounts, and Contracts.

The General tab displays two view panes. The left-most (navigation) pane provides an alphabetical vendor list. Click the desired vendor from the list, and the right (presentment) pane will display properties for the selected vendor.
Displayed vendor properties include:
The General tab also displays links to available Quick Reports. Click the desired report to open a new browser tab displaying the indicated report in PDF format.
NOTE: Report filters for Quick Reports are not configurable from the Vendors & Rates module.
The Summary tab provides view-only access to summary utility billing data for the selected vendor, including a year-to-year cost summary.

The Accounts tab displays the Code, Display, Address, and Account Status (active/inactive) for all accounts associated with the vendor.
Clickable hyperlinks for the displayed account Code provide a link to the associated account and account properties. Click the Code link to switch to the Cost Centers & Accounts view for that account.
Hyperlinks for the displayed account Address (compass icon) will link to a web-based map of the address. Click the compass icon to open a map of the associated address in a new browser tab.
The Contracts tab displays a list with properties for all contracts associated with the vendor.

NOTE: If no contracts are available, the presentment pane will be blank.
EnergyCAP Online now enables users with an internet browser to access the bill entry functionality formerly available only through the Work Flow Manager in the EnergyCAP installed client software. For smaller organizations, and for large organizations with bill entry responsibilities allocated throughout the enterprise, EnergyCAP Online offers additional convenience, simplicity and flexibilty.
NOTE: Users of the EnergyCAP Enterprise installed client to whom bill keying is an integral part of workflow will notice many limitations in the initial (2.3) software release. Most importantly, not all of the bill headers are exposed. However, remote users with simple bill entry needs may benefit from ECO’s bill entry functionality. With each coming release, bill entry will be enhanced to meet the needs of our growing base of online-only customers.
To enter bills via EnergyCAP Online:

The (default) Audits view displays the results of the Quick Audits that are automatically run during bill entry. Click the audit icon to display audit results.
The Account Memo functionality is the same as the installed client version of EnergyCAP Enterprise. Click the Account Memo icon to view and edit the Account Memo.
Bill Flags in EnergyCAP Online are referred to as Bill Messages in the installed client. Click the Bill Problem Flags icon to view/add Bill Problem Flags and comments. Flagged bills can then be set as “fixed” at a future date. Flags and comments will appear in various reports, and on the ECO- generated PDF of each bill.
Bills may now be edited or deleted from all bill lists by users with appropriate permissions. To delete or EDIT a historical bill in EnergyCAP Online, it is necesary to locate it in the Bill Lists.
Bills with Problem Flags: Click this list to display bills that have associated problem flags (previously referred to as Bill Messages in the installed client). Any bill in the list will, when edited, display the problem flags associated with the bill. Users with appropriate permissions can clear bill problem flags at a later date.
Custom Filter – All Bills: Click this list to display a bill search window that includes filters for Created By (user that created the bill), account (dynamically searches Account and Meter information, including Account Code/Display/Street/City/Vendor and Meter Serial Number/Account/Commodity/Vendor), and billing period (select date range). Previous search filter settings are saved and will be displayed by default the next time the Custom Filters Bill List is selected.

EnergyCAP reports can organize and present data in a variety of different ways. Energy CAP Online includes more than 200 unique reports. The EnergyCAP, Inc. website contains a link to the sample reports viewer, a tool which briefly describes each report:

To run a report from EnergyCAP Online:

Quick Reports provide intelligent context-sensitive reporting options, no matter where the user is navigating in EnergyCAP Online.

Whenever available, Quick Reports appear on the right side of the Presentment pane, and consist of a bulleted list of pre-selected, pre-filtered reports considered to offer the greatest utility for presentment of information associated with the currently-selected node in the Navigation pane. The example below displays the Quick Reports available when an individual account is selected.

Any Quick Report can be displayed by clicking the report name from the bulleted list. The resulting report, with its default filter settings determined by the navigation, will be displayed in a new browser tab.
Default Quick Report filter settings cannot be changed by the user. However, if you wish to further fine-tune the filters, go to the alphabetical list of reports in the Most Recent Reports category (see Reports hierarchy in the Navigation pane).
NOTES: A Quick Report will overwrite filters previously set for the same report in EnergyCAP Online. If a report with specific filter settings is run often, consider adding it to My Configured Reports to preserve the desired filter settings.
A list of the filters used to generate the report is displayed on the final page of each report. This filter list can be used as a helpful guide when preparing filters for user-configured reports.

The following are valid branding options for EnergyCAP Online version 2.2
Database-level branding is available to hosted and non-hosted clients. For clients whose data is hosted by ECI, database-level branding (changing the company logo at the database level) is presently the only option for branding.
EnergyCAP Online has a default logo which displays in the upper left corner of the browser window following a successful login:

Clients can replace this logo with their own logo by clicking the Settings button in EnergyCAP Online:

... and then copying and pasting the URL for their logo into the “Custom Logo” box:

Note, however, that the logo displaying at the logon screen cannot be replaced for hosted clients:

ECI-hosted users of EnergyCAP Online will only see the customized logo after they log into the application. This is the only branding option available to hosted clients at this time.
For clients hosting their own EnergyCAP database and installation of Online, a global branding option is available. The client may opt to replace the default EnergyCAP logo in both the login screen and in every database by modifying the config.xml file in the /assets/ folder of the Online installation directory.
For global branding, replace the highlighted xml coding...

... with the following:
<!-- LogoImage: imageSource:Branding -->
<LogoImage imageSource="http://www.imagehost.com/mymage.jpg" />
(The URL in quotation marks corresponds to the web location of the desired brand logo image.)
EXAMPLE: <LogoImage imageSource="http://www.energycap.com/media/images/logo.png" />
For consultant clients who host multiple databases belonging to their own clients, both options 1 and 2 may be used together. The consultant would simply use option 2 with their own logo, resulting in a branded login screen. The consultant would then change the logo at the database level for each of their clients. Clients would then see the consultant logo at the login screen, and then their own organization logo after logging into the application.
Another option for consultant clients who have elected for ECI to host their clients’ data is to develop a customized login screen in place of the default EnergyCAP login screen. With this option, the responsibility rests with the consultant to create the login screen, including the required fields and programmatic functionality necessary for the login.
It is expected that the consultant has the necessary technical knowledge to implement this solution, which requires the consultant’s custom login screen to interact with the XML-based, preliminary Web Service offered in Online 2.2. The requirements for such a login screen are discussed in the EnergyCAP Online installation instructions in section 9.6.1, and it is expected that the client will take the necessary precautions to secure users’ password data with SSL encryption.*
Because of the highly customized nature of this option, clients may be assessed a fee.
* Although not a requirement for this process to work, this encryption step is highly advisable.
In conjunction with Option #4, consultant clients may elect to submit a “logout URL” as part of the login information passed to EnergyCAP Online from the custom login screen. With this option, when users log out of the application they will be redirected to the provided URL, rather than being returned to the default EnergyCAP login screen. The requirements for implementing this “logout URL” are discussed in the EnergyCAP Online installation instructions in section 9.6.2.
Because of the highly customized nature of this option, clients may be assessed a fee.
